Disclaimer and attorney advertising
This website is advertising. It is written to be useful, but it is general information about immigration law for survivors of abuse, not advice about your case, and reading it does not make us your lawyers.

If you are in danger now, call 911
This website is not an emergency service, and a lawyer cannot keep you physically safe. A domestic-violence advocate can help you make a safety plan.
Attorney advertising
This website is attorney advertising under New York Rule of Professional Conduct 7.1 and Florida Bar Rule 4-7.13. Usher Law Group, P.C. publishes it to describe what we do and to explain how the law works for survivors of abuse.
The attorney responsible for the content of this site is Mikhail Usher, Esq., managing attorney, Usher Law Group, P.C., 1600 Sheepshead Bay Rd, Suite 203, Brooklyn, NY 11235, (718) 484-7510, info@usherlegal.com.

This is not legal advice
Every page on this site describes the law in general terms. A VAWA case turns on specific facts: who the abuser is and what status they hold, when and where you lived together, what happened and what evidence of it exists, your own record, and any criminal or family court case on either side. General information cannot account for any of that.
Do not make a decision about a filing, a deadline, a statement, a plea or a signature based on something you read here. Talk to a lawyer about your own facts. If there has been an arrest, talk to your criminal lawyer first and read arrested or charged.
No attorney-client relationship until a signed retainer
Reading this site does not make you our client. Neither does sending us a form, an email or a text message, and neither does a free consultation. An attorney-client relationship with Usher Law Group, P.C. begins only when we and you sign a written retainer agreement that says what we are handling and what it costs.
Until that agreement exists, we are not tracking your deadlines. If you have a hearing date, a response due to USCIS, or any other deadline, it remains yours to protect until a signed retainer says otherwise.
Prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome
Anything this site says about past matters, including the public court decisions we describe, tells you what happened in those matters and nothing more. Every case turns on its own facts and its own evidence. Nothing here is a prediction or a promise about your case, and no lawyer can honestly give you one.
The law changes, and these pages carry a date
Immigration rules, forms and fees change. A page that was accurate last quarter can be wrong now. Every page that states the law shows a "Current as of" date under its heading. Read that date. If it is old, or if your deadline is close, confirm the point with a lawyer or against the government's own source before you rely on it.
Government filing fees are not legal fees
When this site names a dollar amount, it says who receives it. Government filing fees go to USCIS or to the Department of Justice. We never receive them, we cannot waive them, and we cannot refund them. Where we have not verified the current amount of a government fee, we do not print a figure; we say that a fee applies and link the official schedule. Our legal fees are separate, are flat, and are quoted in writing before we start work. See fees.
About the photographs on this site
The photographs on this site are digitally created and illustrative. They show our attorneys, but they are not photographs of real events, and no other person in them is an actual client or an actual survivor. No image here should be read as a representation about a real case.
We use these images because we will never put a photograph of an actual client, or of any survivor, on a public website, and we will not put a stranger from a stock library on the site and let you assume it is us.
The three attorney portraits on the firm pages are the exception: those are photographs of those attorneys.
Who is admitted where
- Mikhail Usher, Esq., managing attorney, is admitted in New York, New Jersey and Florida.
- Alexander Susi, Esq., is admitted in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
- Mitchell Bromberg, Esq., is admitted in New Jersey and New York.
Immigration practice is federal. USCIS, the immigration courts and the Board of Immigration Appeals are federal agencies and tribunals, and an attorney admitted in any state may appear before them. That is why we represent survivors in VAWA and other immigration matters throughout the United States without being admitted in each state.
State-law matters are different. Divorce, custody, protective orders and criminal cases are governed by state law, and we act in them only where the attorney handling the matter is admitted. If your question is not an immigration question, ask us and we will tell you plainly whether we can take it.
Other languages
This site is published in English. It has no machine translation. We speak English, Russian, Spanish and Uzbek in-house, and we arrange a live interpreter for any other language, so ask us and we will explain any page to you in the language you speak.
